CIPC & Company Secretarial FAQ
How much does it cost to register a company in South Africa?
CIPC’s own fees are modest (typically under R200 for the registration itself, plus name reservation). Professional all-in registration services in the SA market typically range from R500 to R2,500, including SARS registration. PayStream quotes upfront with no hidden extras.
When are CIPC annual returns due?
Within 30 business days of the anniversary of your company’s incorporation date, every year. The fee depends on your turnover band, and late filing adds penalties — persistent non-filing leads to deregistration.
What happens if my company is deregistered by CIPC?
Deregistration ends the company’s legal existence: bank accounts can be frozen, contracts and property ownership are compromised, and directors can become personally exposed. Restoration is possible but slow — prevention is far cheaper.
What is the beneficial ownership register?
All companies must declare their beneficial owners (the natural persons who ultimately own or control the company) to CIPC and keep the record current. CIPC blocks annual return filing where beneficial ownership is outstanding.
